WHITE SUCKER (Catostomus commersoni)

  • no adipose fin is present
  • ventral protrusible mouth, opening downwards
  • snout rounded almost square when viewed from the side
king when viewed downwards from above

Other notable comments and clues:

  • Sometimes referred to as the common sucker.
  • The most distinguishing feature of the juvenile white sucker, like the longnose sucker, is its ventral protrusible mouth that opens downwards.
  • The head is almost square shaped, unlike the longnose sucker, which is more pointed.
  • Take note of the distribution as the white sucker is less commonly found.
