Known
distribution in Yukon: throughout the Yukon River system to its
headwater and Mackenzie River system.
Other notable
comments and clues:
- The most distinguishing feature of the least
cisco, in comparison to those of the inconnu, are the head is
less pointy looking from the side, the lower jaw has only a slight
“under-bite” (extends beyond upper jaw), and the body
doesn’t seem as elongated, or it looks shorter length-wise.
- Can be easily mistaken or confused with juvenile
inconnu.
- Least cisco can be separated from bering cisco by measuring the
distance from snout to insertion point of the pelvic fins (with
callipers). When this measured distance is doubled, it will land
on
the hypural notch of the caudal peduncle – not before it
(or anterior
to the base of the tail; ie, the least cisco is longer bodied).
