INCONNU (Stenodus leucichthys)

  • adipose fin is present
  • parr marks absent (NOT present)
  • lower jaw obviously extends way beyond upper jaw, like an “under-bite”
  • large head that looks quite pointed from the side
  • caudal (tail) fin distinctly forked
  • body not compressed, or seems elongated
  • dorsal fin fairly far back towards tail of fish

 

Known distribution in Yukon: throughout the Yukon River system to its headwater and Mackenzie River system.

Other notable comments and clues:

  • The most distinguishing feature of the juvenile inconnu is the lower jaw obviously extends beyond the upper jaw.
  • Can be easily mistaken or confused with juvenile least cisco.
