LAKE CHUB (Couesius plumbeus)

  • no adipose fin is present
  • very thick dark stripe along the lateral line
  • caudal (tail) fin well forked with rounded lobes
  • wide head with large mouth opening
 

Known distribution: Mackenzie and Yukon River systems.

Other notable comments and clues:

  • The most distinguishing feature of the juvenile lake chub is a very thick dark stripe along the lateral line.
  • Sizes of 100mm are considered adults (not very big fish as adults).
